On Tuesday, May 12, we will do our "track clean-up" day including our <b>FUN RUN</b> to <b>DAIRY QUEEN</b>!! Parents need to pick up their student-athlete at Dairy Queen at 5:30 pm. </div>

All athletes should change into their uniforms and wear clothes on top of their uniforms. The forecast indicates rain, so athletes should be prepared with ponchos or rain gear. If your athlete ordered Jersey Mike's, it will be delivered to their home school before they board the bus.<br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><u>During the Meet...</u></span><br />
-It is imperative that athletes listen carefully to the announcer and their coaches so they don't miss their events.<br />
-They should finish eating/snacking well before their event(s) start.<br />
-Athletes should wear their rain gear/warmer clothes on top of their uniform until just before the start of their event(s), including changing into spikes.<br />

I hope this finds everyone well. This season turned out to be amazing in so many respects, thank you to all who played a role in the success of our athletes. This is subject to change as we are coordinating efforts with the girls lacrosse team. We had to move the award extravaganza to a different date as there is an academic recognition ceremony for Worthingway on the evening of the 21st.<br />

I have been, unintentionally, holding the Grizzell Results hostage. They are posted below. Next, the coaching staff has been made aware that many athletes will be missing practice Friday due to OMEA band competition, they are excused. Also, I have posted the events lists (as of 12:45 PM, Friday) for the invitational. All athletes should report directly to the track at TWHS at 8:30 AM Saturday morning. We will have a brief team meeting then work collectively to get the hurdles set-up for prelims and equipment organized for the field events. A few things that aren't pressing but would be great. If any athletes would like to purchase an invitational t-shirt TODAY at practice I will have them available, they are $15. I will be hanging out a bit after practice if parents would like to purchase one for their child. Also, we would like to collect as many uniforms as possible today (at practice) and tomorrow (at the invitational). So please be sure to send your child with their uniform - it does not have to be washed, I'll be washing all of them once the season is over because there's usually one unwashed uniform that spoils the bunch. :)<br />

With that in mind the coaching staff first went by times posted this season to allow the 12 fastest kiddos to have first choice in running those events, we then went by preference and made changes as best we could, then some were asked to try an event they haven't before or perhaps that isn't usually an event the prefer to fill out the meet schedule. Please know that coaching staff has made every effort to get athletes in 3 events but space and time didn't allow for this to happen in a few cases. On that note, the events lists are posted below, after that, directions to Grizzell.<br />

2) The Worthington Middle School Invitational - First, it is our expectation that every member of the track team attend this invitational whether or not you are competing. There are many things that need done during the meet that require a non-competitor to help with. For example, hurdle crew, we've done such a fantastic job with this at not only our home meets but at away meets as well, some teams aren't so quick to help out at away meets. Another example would be with field events, each field event will have an official running the event but it is helpful to have non-competitors pull-tape in the shot put or discus; retrieve implements; or rake the pit for long jump. Please wear Cardinals track gear, support your teammates, and help out when/where needed. Our team locker room will be in the field house on the north side of the building (it is usually the girls track locker room) ALL ATHLETES (competitors and non-competitors) should arrive to TW by 8:30 AM! Second, I have included both an information sheet (<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_bOyeUf0CNPSmEzaTFWSGh6aHM/edit?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Meet Program</a>) that went out to all teams that has a lot of great information to read about as well as the events list as it stands right now (very bottom of the post). Please note, the results of Wednesday's meet could change our line-up for Saturday significantly, no spot is secure. Lastly, parents, thank you so much for volunteering to work our home meets as well as this Invitational. We are still in GREAT NEED of parent volunteers. Please consider signing up, especially to sell tickets. The electronic scoring system used for this meet is extremely expensive so tickets need sold to off-set this cost. Any profits made are put directly back into the track program - we have never been told we couldn't purchase an item needed for our athletes (field implements, measuring tape, a new tent, etc.) because we have done so well in selling tickets. If your child has a younger sibling who is interested in Track and Field please consider registering them for this program. As in the past WYB Track is open to any current 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th graders who reside in the Worthington school district. Registration fees are the low cost of $50 through May 31st and $60 after June 1st. The track season will run from June 12th through July 26th. Practices will be held Thursday nights 6:30-8:30. It looks like the track gods are with us again this afternoon - after periods of severe weather it seems we might have a clearing for a great track meet tonight. Good luck to all athletes in their events and good luck to the orchestra kiddos who can't be with us this afternoon/evening.<br />
<br />
Looking ahead there are a few things to note:<br />
1) The meet today is at UA Hastings - directions are below. Note: There is a baseball game scheduled to be played at the same time so parking may be tough. Hastings Lane or the side streets nearby may be a good alternative if the parking lot adjacent to the school is full.<br />
<br />
2) The 7th Grade meet at Lancaster is scheduled for Friday. This meet IS an Invitational but ALL 7th graders are encouraged to attend. There is NO practice for 8th graders on Friday, they are also encouraged to attend but not required. Below is posted both a tentative events list as well as directions. Note: The meet IS at the HIGH SCHOOL, at least according to the latest information I have received.<br />

3) Our last dual meet is away against Dublin Grizzell Middle School scheduled for next Wednesday, May 7th. The hosting team is stingy with the number of participants in each event, they limit 9 athletes in each running event with the exception of the 1600m and relays. This is a big challenge as we have such a large team, coaching staff will do their best to accommodate every athlete but some sacrifices may need to be made. An events list will be posted late this week or early next.<br />

4) The Worthington Invitational is our last Invitational of the season. This event is the premier middle school invitational in the Columbus area: it is electronically timed with photo finishes taken of every race; each track event is limited to one athlete per school; each field event has an OHSAA approved official running the event; and there are 15+ teams participating! Because the meet is electronically timed and we have officials judging each field event doesn't meet we don't still need volunteers - we do! Please check the sign-up genius site below and sign up if you haven't already. Lastly, ALL athletes are expected to attend regardless of if they are participating - this is a meet we host, run, and make successful so we need all hands on deck to help out whether that be with holding blocks, setting/re-setting hurdles, pulling tape, retrieving implements, or running heat sheets to the press box there are roles for every athlete.<br />
<br />
5) Lastly, if you have been using the calendar posted on this site the only changes that have been made are the CANCELLATION of the Marysville meet. There were significant conflicts that arose with this meet between the schools so the decision was made to cancel and NOT reschedule. Please note, our last practice is scheduled for Monday, May 12th for uniform turn-in, clean-up, and a fun run to Dairy Queen. The banquet is tentatively scheduled on the calendar but is subsequent to change, I have heard from a few parents about doing a full dinner instead of cookies and punch. I'll solicit more opinions on this at a later date.<br />

The rain held off and we had a great afternoon of practice. There was a mix up with our Phoenix kiddos so many didn't make it to practice today, no big deal, we'll see everyone at practice tomorrow!<br />
<br />
Parents of KMS orchestra musicians, we are aware that many of athletes are performing Wednesday evening and will not be able to make it to the track meet. If your son or daughter is scheduled to participate in the 100/110 hurdles, the 100m dash, the 1600m run, or the 4x100m relay they might be able to run then get home and then to KMS in time to perform as long as parents are willing to provide transportation. Please let Coach Stegman know ASAP if this is an option for your athlete.<br />

The events list is posted below, very few changes will be able to be made as of this posting as the Hastings staff requires our line-up to be submitted by noon on Tuesday. If any athlete has a significant issue with their events please let coaching staff know at practice tomorrow.<br />

I also have posted a tentative events list for the 7th grade invitational at General Sherman Middle School in Lancaster that is taking place Friday evening. More information is at the very bottom of this post. THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICE FOR 8TH GRADERS ON FRIDAY!<br />

1. This meet is a boys and girls meet open to seventh grade athletes only. <b><u>2 athletes per event.</u></b><br />
<b><u><br /></u></b>
2. The date of the meet is Friday, May 2, 2014 at Fulton Field in Lancaster. Start time is 5:30 PM. (Coach Stegman's Note: This means will most likely will not return to WORTHINGWAY until between 9:30 and 10. Also, buses will DEPART from Worthingway and Kilbourne respectively immediately after school but return ONLY to Worthingway. Phoenix kiddos will get normal transport to Worthingway.)<br />

3. There will be a team trophy for first, second, and third place, plus ribbons for the first six places in each event. Scoring is 10-8-6-4-2-1.<br />

4. The price of admission at the gate is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. Concessions will be available.<br />
<br />
5. A pool of implements will be used in the shot put and discus events.<br />
