Good morning everyone...it seems there is a little confusion about the meet on Saturday.
(1) What time does the meet start?
8:30 am - Coaches meeting
9:00 am - Field Events Begin
10:00 am - 4x800 relay...there is no girls 4x800 because we do not have enough girls that want to run to fill this event.
Finals for the running events begin after the 4x800.
(2) What time does the meet end?
Track meets are nebulous types of events there is a finite beginning to the meet but "the meet ends when the meet ends". The Big Walnut Invitational is a smaller invitational (10 teams) and as a result will not take as long as some larger meets. Last year, for example, we were back to Worthingway, off the bus, and on our way home before the finals of the Gary Smith High School Invitational started (2 PM).
(3) What's up with the bus?
All track athletes that are able to go should be ready for a 7:30am departure on a school bus from Worthingway to Big Walnut. We will return to Worthingway on the same bus after the conclusion of the meet.
(4) Why is my athlete asked to go to the invitational if they are not on the events list?
There are two primary reasons that the coaching staff is asking all athletes to attend: (a) to step up in the place of an athlete who gets injured or cannot attend the meet at the last minute and (b) to experience what an invitational setting is like, dual meets are typically more informal and far less competitive. It is important for all athletes who have not been exposed to this high level of competition to see what it's like so they are not overwhelmed and stressed when they are asked to compete later on - this is especially important for young athletes.
(5) What should my child bring to the meet?
The invitational is a longer event, as I mentioned, so athletes need to be prepared for any type of weather (we do live in Ohio). The forecast for Saturday is mostly sunny and 69. However, we will be arriving at Big Walnut quite early and it will still be chilly so warm clothes and a jacket is recommended; some athletes have been known to bring hat and gloves for this cool morning period. We will have, at a minimum, tarps to keep our things dry from the morning dew (or rain). Some athletes bring sleeping bags or blankets to sit on for comfort. Also, many athletes bring fruit, water, sports drinks, and other LIGHT snacks to keep their energy up throughout the day. Lastly, don't forget the uniform, spikes, and at least one pair of running shoes.
(6) Where the heck is Big Walnut?
Big Walnut is in Sunbury - the middle school and high school are next door to each other. The invitational is at the high school track. The map is below.

(7) What events is my athlete participating in?
The coaching staff is working on finalizing the event list for this invitational. What is posted below is accurate as of the time you are reading this and is updated as the coaching staff is able to make changes, substitutions, and correct inaccuracies.
