Joe Lenge/Dublin Irish Relays Results

Good afternoon!

I had not received results from the Joe Lenge/Dublin Irish relays but after some Googling I managed to locate them. Did, however, keep track of splits while at the meet so both the total results and splits are listed below. Enjoy!

Big Walnut and Worthington Invitationals

Good evening everyone!

The Big Walnut meet is upon us, the line up is posted below, but first some information:
1) The weather is expected to be as it has for every invitational so far this season - cold and rainy. Please plan accordingly!
2) The bus will be departing from Worthingway at 7:45 AM. The Big Walnut Invitational has about twice as many teams as have participated in the past so our return time is more unknown - it used to be our earliest ending time. My best guess would put us back at Worthingway around the 5 o'clock hour.
3) The meet is taking place at Big Walnut High School: 555 South Old 3C Road, Sunbury 43074
Directions:
Take 71 North
Take the Route 36/37 Exit.
Turn RIGHT onto Route 36 towards Sunbury (drive about 4 miles)
You will come to a traffic light with a Kroger on one corner and a CVS on another, go through that traffic light into downtown Sunbury.
Turn RIGHT onto N. Columbus St.
Go about a half-mile, the school and stadium will be on the LEFT.
4) I have not been provided with admission prices but it will be in the $3-$5 range. Field events begin at 9:15 AM, track prelims begin at 11 AM with finals beginning at 12:30 PM.

The Worthington Invitational is coming up next Saturday, May 5th and, as I have mentioned previously, we are in need of a boatload of volunteers. To make the process easier, I hope, I stumbled across "SignUpGenius". Please click the icon below to see what needs volunteers and to sign up!

UA Hastings Results

Good evening everyone!

A couple of things before I recap the meet against Upper Arlington - Hastings:
(1) Practice for tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25th has been CANCELLED - please have your athlete use this day off to stretch, ice, and recover. We have a lot of aches and pains that will subside using the "RICE" method to decrease inflammation: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.
(2) Practice for Thursday (4/26) and Friday (4/27) is scheduled to take place at McCord - athletes will be transported from the home school (Worthingway, Kilbourne, or Phoenix) to McCord. Please make arrangements to pick them up once practice is over - we should be done before 6 PM!
(3) Please e-mail to sign up to volunteer at the Worthington Invitational NEXT SATURDAY (5/5).

Now...on to the good stuff!

The meet this evening against Upper Arlington - Hastings was awesome! Lots of low times on the track and great results in the field - again, despite windy, chilly conditions.

Team Highlights:
First off, there was an arithmetic mistake with the boys results. The final score - Hastings 56, Worthington 58. The boys team WON! They were incorrectly identified as having lost.
Girls final: Hastings 40, Worthington 74.

UA Hastings, Worthington Invitational, Remainder of the Year

Good afternoon!

Just a reminder, the meet against UA Hastings is TOMORROW - Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 5 PM. The meet will take place at UA Hastings Middle School (directions below). I double-checked with their coach today...there is no admission charge and no concessions. I will post the line-up below later this evening.

Also, please ensure that you put Saturday, May 5th on your calendar - we need all hands on deck to help volunteer for the Worthington Middle School Track Invitational that day. Big thank you to Kathy Edwards and the McGraw's for stepping up to volunteer already!

Some have been asking what things they will be volunteering for...well...we need volunteers for:
* Admissions/T-shirts - I'm thinking three different shifts: 8:45 AM-10:45 AM; 10:30 AM-12:30 PM; and 12:15 AM to 1:15 PM with 3-4 volunteers per shift.

* Field events (3-4/event) to work from 9:45 AM until completion of the event about 2 PM. If we get an abundance of volunteers (aka. more than 30) we could do shifts. However, the quicker the volunteers run the event the quicker it ends.

* Hospitality Room/Press Box/Electronic Timing Assistant/Exchange Zone Judges/Hurdle Crew: There are several other things that need volunteers, if you are interested in helping and admissions or a field event is not your thing let me know there are plenty of opportunities! Further, if you would like to head up gathering donations for an setting up the coaches hospitality room I would greatly appreciate it - it was a great deal of stress added to an already stressful day for me.

There is still some confusion as to the schedule for the rest of the year, so here goes:
4/24 - Meet @ UA Hastings - 5 PM - ALL athletes compete

4/28 - Invitational @ Big Walnut - 7:45 AM Departure from Worthingway - Top 2 + Alternate + Relays compete. 9:15 AM - field events begin (boys discus, girls shot put, boys long jump, girls high jump); 11 AM - prelims for running events begin (100H/110H, 100m, 200m, 200H).

5/2 - Meet @ Dublin Grizzell - 5 PM - ALL athletes compete

5/5 - Worthington Middle School Track Invitational @ TWHS - no bus - ALL athletes compete or volunteer and must arrive to TWHS by 8:45 AM.

5/9 - Meet @ Marysville - 5 PM - ALL athletes compete.

Directions to Upper Arlington Hastings:
From Worthington it will take 20-25 minutes with traffic.
Take 315 South towards OSU Campus.
Take the Ackerman Road exit.
Turn RIGHT onto Ackerman Road.
Turn RIGHT onto Kenny Road.
Take the 2ND LEFT onto Fishinger Road.
Turn RIGHT onto Reed Road.
Turn LEFT onto Hastings Lane.
The school will be on the right. The track is on the WEST side of the property with the entrance on the NORTH side of the track.

Heritage Results and Some Other Important Information

Good morning?!

What a beautiful day for a track meet!! Great individual efforts and solid team results. I have to admit I was pretty nervous going into the meet today, I knew the girls meet would be close and I knew the boys would have a difficult challenge. However, I didn't realize - and only after reviewing the results - that the girls meet would come down to the 4x400 relay but it did and the girls team came out victorious (62-52). If the 4x400 team had not won the meet would have been a tie. The boys drew the short straw, though, in a 69-45 loss. As you will see in the results below there were some incredible individual efforts throughout the meet.

Note: I was as disappointing to find out there was an admission charge as many of you were - it came as a complete surprise! Our athletic director, Mr. Mosca (wmosca@worthington.k12.oh.us), was in attendance and was also disappointed with the admission scenario but was also delighted to witness the incredible efforts of all the student-athletes.

Now...onto the Joe Lenge/Dublin Relays on Saturday!!

----- IMPORTANT INFORMATION -----
I was informed this afternoon as I was walking into school that our meet at UA Hastings is on TUESDAY at 5 PM NOT Wednesday.

Hilliard Heritage

Good evening everyone!

First, before I get to the meet line-up and directions to our meet tomorrow at Hilliard Heritage, I wanted to share something special that has occurred at the Pickerington Invitational. Jada Sleet, a 7th grade sprinter and long jumper, broke a 14 year old Worthingway school record with a jump of 15 feet, 3-3/4 inches. This jump eclipses the previous record by nearly 8 inches (7.75"). Congratulations to Jada - with extra hard work and effort who knows what's next!

Next, I wanted to mention that we have an URGENT need for volunteers at the meet tomorrow!! The meet will take longer if we don't have volunteers - if you're planning on attending the meet there is no better vantage point to see the races than the finish line, no better place to watch the field events then right up close to the event helping out. If you are able to volunteer, just find a member of the coaching staff and let them know you're there to help. If you have a preference, share that with the coach and we will do our best to accommodate you!

Lastly before I get to the line-up, I wanted to apologize for the snails pace at which the spirit wear is being delivered. I have been assured that the high school track booster group is doing everything they can to "light a fire" with the folks producing the t-shirts. Annnnd...I wanted to remind everyone to mark their calendars for May 5th - it is the Worthington Invitational held at TWHS - a required event for ALL track athletes. We also need many parent volunteers to help keep this meet running smoothly. Thank you!

Now, onto the meet line-up. It is listed below:

Directions to Hilliard Heritage are below:
Estimated travel time - just under 30 minutes.
* Take 270 W toward Dublin, get off at the Cemetery Road exit.
* Turn RIGHT onto Cemetery Road.
* About 2 miles down on Cemetery you'll stay right at the traffic circle.
* First RIGHT is Hilliard Station School, you can park in their parking lot or the next RIGHT which is Hilliard Heritage (or Memorial - the schools are right next to each other). Park in either lot. The track facility is in the rear of the school - there are two tracks adjacent to each other - not sure which we will be running on.

Pickerinton Invitational!!

Results to the meet are up at: www.baumspage.com/trackms/pickerington/ridgeview/2012/2012 results.htm

Some results are incomplete as of now (i.e. all non-scoring field events). I know many of the results pages were damaged due to the poor weather conditions. I have some of the results personally but will try my best to get all results confirmed.

The highlights:
Girls Long Jump - Jada Sleet - 1st Place (15'-3.75")
Girls 4x800 Meter Relay - 2nd Place (11:90.49)
Girls Discus - Rina Laios - 2nd Place (74'-10")
Boys Long Jump - Matthew Chih - 4th Place (16'-0")
Girls 800m Run - Christina Nash - 4th Place (2:41.20)
Girls 4x400 Meter Relay - 4th Place (4:48.11)
Girls 100m Dash - Jada Sleet - 5th Place (13.65q, 14.10f)
Girls 400m Dash - Christina Nash - 5th Place (1:07.90)
Girls High Jump - Rina Laios - 5th Place (4'-2")
Girls 4x200 Meter Relay - 6th Place (2:02.02)
Boys 4x200 Meter Relay - 6th Place (1:54.37)
Girls 4x100 Meter Relay - 6th Place (56.50)
Boys 4x400 Meter Relay - 6th Place (4:28.11)

Overall the Boys team finished in 12th place (8 points).
Overall the Girls team finished in 4th place (47 points). This is a major accomplishment for our team as neither Kilbourne nor Worthingway had finished higher than 6th in this invitational in the past 5 years!!

Our dual meet on Wednesday is against Hilliard Heritage, it should be a good challenge as they finished 7th (22 points) in the boys and 7th (33.50) in the girls invitational at Pickerington. The meet line-up and directions to Hilliard Heritage will follow in a later blog post.

If you are available to help volunteer we need a full crew of parents to help out at the meet at Hilliard Heritage on Wednesday.

Lastly, please keep calendars marked for Saturday, May 5th as it is the Worthington Invitational - all athletes are expected to attend to either compete or help run events, act as hurdle crew, and assist meet staff and officials. We will also need parents to help out with field events. No timers or scorers are needed as the event is electronically timed - one of the only middle school meets of its kind!!

That's all for now, have a great rest of the weekend.
