Good evening everyone!
Please read this entire post. (If you don't want to read a recap from this weekend skip to "THIS WEEK" below.)
This meet seemed to smell like disaster from the beginning as we had some significant issues getting the team up to the invitational - there were NO BUSES to pick us up. Big shout out to Randy Banks for helping us out with what could have been a nightmare. However tardiness to the meet could not deny...
Absolutely beautiful weather resulted in some AMAZING performances at Big Walnut this weekend. The girls were able to match their performance at this invitational last season coming in 3rd and the boys moved up 4 overall place in 2013 compare to 2012 to also finish 3rd - an awesome accomplishment for all involved! (Full results are located at the bottom of this page.)
Top performers included -
Jada Sleet: 16'-8" in the long jump, 1st place, and a NEW meet record!! An incredible performance on the track as well running a top time in the 100m of 12.86 - she was the number one qualifier into the finals and, in our eyes, was victim of poor judgement in the finals (she was DQ'd due to a false start).
Christina Nash: 5:34.00 in the 1600m, 1st place; 2:33.00 in the 800m, 1st place; and 1st place as a member of the 4x400 relay team. Christina scored the most points of ALL athletes on ALL teams in the invitational (22.5) and although a meet MVP award was not given she most certainly was the most outstanding athlete on Saturday.
Ty Banks: 5:00.00 in the 1600m, 1st place. Ty ran an incredibly physical boys mile on Saturday but was focused as he ran a very tactical race which resulted in both a top finish as well as A CRAZY LOW time. Very few boys locally will run a 5 minute mile this season and Ty still has the potential to go lower!! Coincidentally Ty was also our boys team high scorer as he came in 5th in the 800m and was a member of the 4th place 4x400 team.
In addition to Jada members of the 1st place 4x100 team were Kiara Coleman, Kyra Griffith, and Anastasia Toth. Also, members, other than Christina, of the 1st place 4x400 team were Kiara Coleman, Hannah Moulton, and Mady Rice.
Overall the Cardinals scored 6 - 1st place performances; 3 - 2nd place performances; a 3rd place performance; 5 - 4th place performances; a 5th place; a 7th place; and 2 - 8th place performances. A very sweet, inspiring, encouraging event. The potential contained within all 30+ participants makes me extremely excited in anticipation for our remaining dual meets (2) and the Worthington Invitational (less than two weeks away).
THIS WEEK:
Our last home meet is against Dublin Grizzell on Wednesday starting at 5 PM. We may be changing up our line-up a bit here and there this week and next to get athletes the opportunity to try events they haven't had a chance to perform in a meet to this point. These dual meets will also be critical for our top athletes in preparation for the Worthington Invitational as we are only able to submit ONE athlete per event - this intrasquad competition is setting up to provide some very entertaining events over the next 10 days.
Please, please, please sign-up to volunteer...we haven't had quite the turn out for field events as we had hoped. Our meets are only able to run smoothly with parents stepping up to help out! See the link below to sign-up!!

THE WORTHINGTON INVITATIONAL:
This event, as I have mentioned, is the premier middle school track meet in central Ohio. We currently have 18 teams registered to compete but we cannot have success on the track without the help of volunteers! If you are nervous to work as a timer, good news, it's an electronically timed meet! We don't need timers! But...we need ticket sellers, field event workers, exchange zone supervisors, t-shirt sellers, and hospitality volunteers among others...Please, I plead, sign up to help out, the link is below:
