Worthington Cardinals @ Big Walnut Invitational

Good evening!

The events list for Big Walnut has been finalized. This week has been particularly challenging due to ever changing family schedules and activities. The coaching staff was exasperated making last minute changes and undoing changes, feverishly trying to find substitutions, it was quite a chaotic Friday practice. Which leads me to say PARENTS: PLEASE LETTING COACHING STAFF KNOW WHETHER OR NOT YOUR CHILD IS NOT ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN AN INVITATIONAL ASAP!! I submitted our roster on Tuesday thinking I had all conflicts noted as I had asked on two separate occasions (a week ago Thursday and this past Tuesday) if athletes could attend. Alas, coaching was blindsided with weekend committments through the beginning of practice TODAY.

A little background on how large (15+ team) Invitationals are organized:
1. Organizers of host team contact athletic directors of those schools whose teams have been invited to ask that they (the athletic directors) pass along information to coaching staff.
2. Coaching staff is given a deadline as to when rosters along with qualifying times are to be submitted. This week that was Thursday by noon.
3. Meet organizers close the window to submit changes and create heat sheets and lane assignments based on the time coaches have submitted.
4. Meet goes, theoretically, off without a hitch as no changes are made - ha!
5. Coaches submit 11th hour scratches and changes at the meet which causes organizers headaches and causes the meet to be held up.

This week, at 6 PM on Friday, I submitted to meet organizers 16 CHANGES due to coaching staff not being made aware of conflicts causing athletes to not be able to attend the Invitational.
*steps down off soap box*
